7th Grade Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

  • ART.VA.I.7.1 Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.2 Understand the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.3 Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.II.HS.7 Create preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • To understand how one part represents a whole
  • To design patterns to create colors
  • To use contour line to draw self portrait
  • To interpret the success of their own work

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on the  Chuck Close project.

Tuesday:   Students will work on the  Chuck Close project.

Wednesday:  Students will work on the  Chuck Close project.

Thursday:  Students will work on the  Chuck Close project.

Friday: Students will finish their Chuck Close project.

6th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Leonardo DaVinci and transform the Mona Lisa.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a Powerpoint about Leonardo DaVinci and complete Artifacts about him.

Tuesday:  Students will watch a demonstration about how to transform the Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci.  Students will then begin working on their project.

Wednesday:  Students will then continue working on their Mona Lisa project.

Thursday:  Students will read an article about DaVinci and complete Lancer Notes about it.  Students will work on their Mona Lisa project.

Friday:  Students will finish the Mona Lisa project and take a quiz on Leonardo DaVinci.

8th Grade Digital Art: 4th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organizational principles of art to communicate ideas.

ART.II.VA.M.6    Organize information and ideas for media productions.

ART.III.VA.M.4   Describe and compare the characteristics of personal artwork to the artwork of others.

ART.IV.VA.M.3    Anaylze, describe, and demonstrate how factors of time and place (such as climate, resources, ideas, and technology) influence visual characteristics that give meaning and value to a work of art.

Objective:   Students will learn about Romero Britto and create their own design in Adobe Illustrator in his style.

Agenda:

Monday: Powerpoint presentation, sketch ideas-cropping elements off the edges and focusing on a balanced composition

Tuesday: Once approved beginning working in Photoshop. Using a thick black paintbrush tool, draw the design in photoshop.  Once the design is drawn, use the fill bucket to begin filling each section in with a bright color.

Wednesday: After all sections are colored in with a bright color, begin creating patterns in each section with a different color that makes the section “pop”!  (The trickiest part of this project is to keep the design “readable”.   Try not to get so carried away with the patterns and colors that it becomes too busy!”

Thursday: Continue and assess how much more time is needed.

Friday: Complete self-assessment and class critique.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2    Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective: 

  • Students will learn how to do gesture drawing
  • Students will review contour drawing
  • Students will create a self-portrait
  • Students will use pattern to “color” their portrait

Agenda:

Monday:  Discuss gesture drawing.  Students will focus on drawing quick gesture drawings for the whole class period.

Tuesday:   Students will do longer gesture drawings.  Students will also learn about contour drawing.  Students will complete a contour drawing.

Wednesday:   Discuss portrait project.  Take photos for project.  Students will adjust contrast of photos on the computers and print their photos for the project.

Thursday: Students will work on their Self-Portrait project.

Friday:  Last day of Marking Period 3!  Half way through the school year!

  • To understand the use and concepts of Digital Photography
  • To design a presentation using photographs they have taken
  • To demonstrate the ability to manipulate photographs to fit the student’s work
  • To interpret the success of their own work

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their Straight Photography Photobooks.

Tuesday: Students will work on their Straight Photography Photobooks.

Wednesday: Students will work on their Straight Photography Photobooks.

Thursday:  Students will work on their Straight Photography Photobooks.

Friday:  End of Marking Period 3- Halfway through the school year!!
