7th Grade Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

  • ART.VA.I.7.1 Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.2 Understand the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.3 Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.II.HS.7 Create preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • To interpret the success of their own work
  • To understand monochromatic color schemes
  • To mix paint
  • To create a monochromatic painting

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue painting their animals.

Tuesday:   Students will continue painting their animals.

Wednesday:  Students will continue painting their animals.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

Thursday:  Students will finish painting if needed.  Students will find an image of a cartoon character on the computer and print it off. 

Friday: Students will begin creating a paper mache cartoon character.

6th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Salvador Dali and Surrealism and will create a dream-like surreal painting.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a Powerpoint about Salvador Dali and complete Artifacts about him.

Tuesday:  Students will watch a demonstration about how to create a dream painting using images from the Internet.  Students will then begin working on their project.

Wednesday:  Students will continue working on their surrealist dream project.

Thursday:  Students will read an article about Dali and answer some questions about it.  Students will then continue working on their surrealist dream project.

Friday:  Students will finish their surrealist dream project and take a quiz on Salvador Dali.

8th Grade Digital Art: 4th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organizational principles of art to communicate ideas.

ART.II.VA.M.6    Organize information and ideas for media productions.

ART.III.VA.M.4   Describe and compare the characteristics of personal artwork to the artwork of others.

ART.IV.VA.M.3    Anaylze, describe, and demonstrate how factors of time and place (such as climate, resources, ideas, and technology) influence visual characteristics that give meaning and value to a work of art.

Objective:   Students will re-design the label of a food product.

Agenda:

Monday: Powerpoint, discussion, worksheet.

Tuesday: Students will begin working on their label re-designs.

Wednesday: Students will continue working on their label re-designs.

Thursday: Students will continue working on their label re-designs.

Friday: Students will continue working on their label re-designs.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Art.I.VA.M.2    Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective: 

1. Show an understanding and awareness of the work of Chuck Close. Understand how an artist gets ideas.

2. Use ruler skills in creating a grid – develop skills in enlarging a composition using a grid. Study proportion.

3. Recognize values and create values using line, pattern and simulated textures. Develop Contrast through values.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Tuesday:   Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Wednesday:   Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Thursday: Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Friday:  Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Objective:  

  • To understand the use and concepts of Typography
  • To design a magazine cover
  • To demonstrate the ability to manipulate photographs to fit the student’s work
  • To interpret the success of their own work

Agenda:

Monday:  Class discussion about Magazine covers and what makes them appealing.  Students will complete a research guide about magazine covers and a layout guide.

Tuesday:  Powerpoint and discussion about magazine cover project.  Students will begin working on their magazine covers.

Wednesday: Students will continue working on their magazine covers.

Thursday:  Students will continue working on their magazine covers.  Students will create an advertisement for their magazine cover.

Friday:  Students will continue working on their magazine covers.  When finished, students will complete a self-evaluation.
