8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.8.1     Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.II.8.2    Effectively develop and apply critical thinking strategies through the art making process.

ART.VA.III.8.3    Effectively describe how the artist’s choice of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes influence the viewer.

Objective:  Students will learn about perspective drawing and create a city street using this technique.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will begin working on their city street projects.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their city street projects.

Wednesday:  (Sub all day.) Students will work on their city street projects.

Thursday:  Students will work on their city street projects.

Friday: Students will work on their city street projects.

6th Grade Digital Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Georgia O’Keeffe and create a project that replicates her Abstract style.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a Powerpoint about Georgia O’Keeffe and complete Artifacts about her.

Tuesday:  Students will watch a demonstration about how to create an abstract flower painting in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe.  Students will then begin working on their project.

Wednesday: ( Sub all day.)  Students will read an article about Georgia O’Keeffe and answer some questions about it.  Students will then continue working on their Abstract flower project.

Thursday:  Students will continue to work on their Abstract flower project.

Friday:  Students will finish the Abstract flower project and take a quiz on Georgia O’Keeffe.

7th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

  • ART.VA.I.7.1 Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.2 Understand the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.3 Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • To understand the use and concepts/tools in Adobe Photoshop
  • To design a composition using proportion and perspective
  • To demonstrate the ability to use the digital camera to take photographs
  • To interpret the success of their own work

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view examples of the Who’s in School project.  Students will take a photo of a hallway for the project.  Students will begin gathering images of different people/characters for their project.

Tuesday: Students will work on their who’s in school project.

Wednesday:   (Sub all day.)  Students will finish their who’s in school project and complete a self-evaluation.

Thursday:  Students will be introduced to the What’s in My Head project.  Students will begin gathering images for that project.

Friday:  Students will work on and finish their What’s in My Head project.  Students will save them to a flash drive to turn in for credit.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2    Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective: Students will create a low-relief sculpture using paper.

Agenda:

Monday:  Work on quilling project.  Students will be introduced to the Architectural Letter project.  Students who are finished with their quilling project will begin creating their letters.

Tuesday:   Quilling projects are due!  Self-evaluation will be completed.  Students will continue working on letters.

Wednesday:   (Sub all day.)  Students will work on their letter projects.

Thursday:  Students will work on their letter projects.

Friday:  Students will work on their letter projects.

8th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

     Objective:   Students will learn how to use new tools in Adobe Illustrator.

     Agenda:

Monday:  Students will be introduced to more new tools in Illustrator and use them on a practice project in Illustrator-Shield project.

Tuesday: Students will continue using new tools and working on practice projects in Illustrator-Shield project.

Wednesday: (Sub all day.)  Students will be introduced to the Logo design project through an article.  Students will begin sketching ideas for their personal logo.

Thursday: Students will narrow down their ideas for their logo and describe how they would create them on the computer.

Friday: Students will choose one design to create on the computer.  Students will begin designing their logo on the computer in Adobe Illustrator.
