8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art.I.VA.M.2     Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.IV.VA.M.2     Describe and place a variety of art objects in historical and cultural contexts.

Objective: 

  • Become aware of Radial design in art through examples of Rose windows and mandala designs from various cultures
  • Understand math concepts as they relate to art
  • Create a radial design inspired from nature – looking closely at insect, plants and/or flowers
  • Demonstrate skill in blending of colors using colored pencils
  • Show awareness of color planning in selection of colors.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will learn about mandalas and look at examples of former students work.  Students will sketch ideas of what they want to put in their mandalas, and begin working on them.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their mandalas.

Wednesday:  Students will continue to work on their mandalas.

Thursday:  Students will continue to work on their mandalas.

Friday: 1/2 day, end of MP 5

6th Grade Digital Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Pablo Picasso and create a cubist self-portrait.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a Powerpoint about Pablo Picasso and complete Artifacts about him.

Tuesday:   Students will watch a demonstration about how to begin creating their cubist self-portrait.  Students will then begin working on their project.

Wednesday:   Students will read an article about Pablo Picassoi and answer some questions about it.  Students will then continue working on their cubist self-portrait project.

Thursday:   Students will finish the self-portrait project and take a quiz on Pablo Picasso.

Friday:  1/2 day, end of MP 5

7th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

  • ART.VA.I.7.1 Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.2 Understand the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly at an emerging level.
  • ART.VA.I.7.3 Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • To understand the use and concepts/tools in Adobe Photoshop
  • To create a book of different types of photography
  • To demonstrate the ability to use the digital camera to take photographs
  • To interpret the success of their own work

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their Photobook pages.

Tuesday: Students will work on their Photobook pages.

Wednesday:    Students will work on their Photobook pages.

Thursday:  Students will finish creating their Photobooks and complete a self-evaluation.

Friday:  1/2 day, end of MP 5

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2    Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will create a vessel out of clay using various techniques.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a powerpoint about clay techniques and take notes about it.  Students will sketch some ideas about what they want to create with clay.

Tuesday: Students will begin using clay to create their vessel.

Wednesday:  Students will continue working on their clay vessel.

Thursday:  Students will continue working on their clay vessel.

Friday: 1/2 day, end of MP 5

8th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organizational principles of art to communicate ideas.

ART.II.VA.M.6   Organize information and ideas for media productions.

ART.III.VA.M.4   Describe and compare the characteristics of personal artwork to the artwork of others.

ART.IV.VA.M.3   Anaylze, describe, and demonstrate how factors of time and place (such as climate, resources, ideas, and technology) influence visual characteristics that give meaning and value to a work of art.

     Objective:  Students will learn about Romero Britto and create their own design in Adobe Illustrator in his style. 

     Agenda:

Monday:  Powerpoint presentation, sketch ideas-cropping elements off the edges and focusing on a balanced composition

Tuesday: Once approved beginning working in Illustrator. Using the pen tool, draw the design in Illustrator. Once the design is drawn, use the live paint bucket to begin filling each section in with a bright color.

Wednesday:   After all sections are colored in with a bright color, begin creating patterns in each section with a different color that makes the section “pop”! (The trickiest part of this project is to keep the design “readable”.   Try not to get so carried away with the patterns and colors that it becomes too busy!”

Thursday:  Continue working on Britto projects.

Friday: 1/2 day, end of MP 5
