8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art.I.VA.M.2     Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.IV.VA.M.2     Describe and place a variety of art objects in historical and cultural contexts.

Objective: 

  • Become aware of Radial design in art through examples of Rose windows and mandala designs from various cultures
  • Understand math concepts as they relate to art
  • Create a radial design inspired from nature – looking closely at insect, plants and/or flowers
  • Demonstrate skill in blending of colors using colored pencils
  • Show awareness of color planning in selection of colors.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue to work on their mandalas.

Tuesday:  Students will continue to work on their mandalas.

Wednesday:  Mandalas due!  Students will complete a self-evaluation

Thursday:  1/2 day-advisory in am, conferences 1-7 pm

Friday: Students will be introduced to the next project – Clay!

6th Grade Digital Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Salvador Dali and Surrealism.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a Powerpoint about Salvador Dali and complete Artifacts about him.

Tuesday:   Students will watch a demonstration about how to begin creating their surreal pictures.  Students will then begin working on their project.

Wednesday:   Students will read an article about Salvador Dali and answer some questions about it.  Students will then continue working on their surreal project.

Thursday:   1/2 day – Advisory in am, Conferences 1-7

Friday:  Students will take a quiz on Dali.  Students will then finish their surreal projects and complete a self-evaluation.

7th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at an emerging level.

 

ART.VA.II.7.4 Initiate new ideas employing inventiveness and innovation at an emerging level with increasing independence.

 

ART.VA.III.7.2 Interpret artwork searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at an emerging level.

ART.VA.IV.7.1 Recognize, describe and analyze, and evaluate how art contributes to and reflects all societies and cultures at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • Students will understand what a Mandala is
  • Students will create their own digital Mandala
  • Students will use Photoshop effectively

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view a powerpoint about Mandalas, former student examples and how to create mandalas.  Students will begin working on the background for their mandala.

Tuesday: Students will work on their mandalas.

Wednesday:    Students will work on their mandalas.

Thursday:  1/2 day – Advisory in am, Conferences from 1-7 pm

Friday:  Students will finish their mandalas and complete a self-evaluation.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2    Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will create a vessel out of clay using various techniques.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue working on their clay vessel.

Tuesday: Students will continue working on their clay vessel.

Wednesday:  Students will finish working on their clay vessel.  Students will be introduced to Book Arts.  Students will view examples of former students work and begin working on their own Deconstructed Book.

Thursday:  1/2 day – Advisory in am, Conferences from 1-7 pm

Friday:  Students will work on their Deconstructed books.

8th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.8.1 Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.I.8.3 Select and apply visual characteristics and organizational principles to communicate effectively when designing and solving creative problems.

ART.VA.II.8.5 Consistently demonstrate reflective thinking practices when identifying, designing, and solving creative problems.

ART.VA.V.8.2 Effectively recognize and describe the skills used in visual arts careers.

     Objective: 

  • Students will design a cover for a CD
  • Students will understand and use the principles of design
  • Students will learn how to use the basic tools in Adobe Illustrator

     Agenda:

Monday:  Powerpoint presentation, worksheet to draw out ideas for CD cover

Tuesday: Once approved, students will begin designing their CD covers in Illustrator.

Wednesday:   Students will continue working on their CD covers.

Thursday:  1/2 day – Advisory in am, Conferences from 1-7 pm

Friday: Students will finish their CD covers and complete a self-evaluation.
