8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art.I.VA.M.2     Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

ART.VA.II.8.6  Make knowledgeable choices about materials, techniques, media technology, organizational principles, and processes to effectively articulate ideas and communicate intended meaning.

Objective: 

  • Students will learn how to use a grid to enlarge a picture
  • Students will use tools a materials effectively to communicate ideas
  • Students will learn color theory through painting

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue to work on their drawings.  When finished, students will begin painting.

Tuesday:  Students will continue to work on their drawings.  When finished, students will begin painting.

Wednesday:  Students will finish drawing and begin painting.

Thursday:  Students will continue painting.

Friday: Students will continue painting.  When finished, students will complete a self-evaluation.

6th Grade Digital Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Vincent Van Gogh and will create a project in his style.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a Powerpoint about Vincent Van Gogh and complete Artifacts about him.

Tuesday:   Students will watch a demonstration about how to begin creating their expressionist pictures.  Students will then begin working on their project.

Wednesday:   Students will read an article about Vincent Van Gogh and answer some questions about it.  Students will then continue working on their surreal project.

Thursday:  Students will continue working on their projects.

Friday:  Students will take a quiz on Van Gogh.  Students will then finish their projects and complete a self-evaluation.

7th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.4 Initiate new ideas employing inventiveness and innovation at an emerging level with increasing independence.

ART.VA.III.7.2 Interpret artwork searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at an emerging level.

ART.VA.IV.7.1 Recognize, describe and analyze, and evaluate how art contributes to and reflects all societies and cultures at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • Students will understand what Pop Art is
  • Students will create their own Pop Art Self-Portrait
  • Students will use Photoshop effectively

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view a powerpoint about pop art.  Demo of how to use filters in photoshop.  Students will begin creating their images.

Tuesday: Students will work on their pop art images.

Wednesday:    Students will finish their pop art images.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

Thursday:  Students will be introduced to the magazine cover project.  Students will watch a powerpoint about magazine covers.  Students will complete a worksheet to begin gathering ideas for their magazine covers.

Friday:  Students will work on their magazine covers.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will create a deconstructed book.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their Deconstructed books.

Tuesday: Students will work on their Deconstructed books.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their Deconstructed books.

Thursday:  Students will work on their Deconstructed books.

Friday:  Students will finish their Deconstructed books.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

8th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.8.1 Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.I.8.3 Select and apply visual characteristics and organizational principles to communicate effectively when designing and solving creative problems.

ART.VA.II.8.5 Consistently demonstrate reflective thinking practices when identifying, designing, and solving creative problems.

ART.VA.V.8.2 Effectively recognize and describe the skills used in visual arts careers.

     Objective: 

  • Students will design a cover for a CD
  • Students will understand and use the principles of design
  • Students will learn how to use the basic tools in Adobe Illustrator

     Agenda:

Monday:  Students will finish their CD covers and complete a self-evaluation.

Tuesday: Students will be introduced to the Shoe Advertisement project.  Students will watch a powerpoint about advertisements.  Students will complete a worksheet to gather ideas about what type of shoe they want to create an advertisement for.

Wednesday:   Students will begin working on their shoe advertisements in Illustrator.

Thursday:  Students will work on their shoe advertisements.

Friday: Students will work on their shoe advertisements.
