8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art.I.VA.M.2     Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

ART.VA.II.8.6  Make knowledgeable choices about materials, techniques, media technology, organizational principles, and processes to effectively articulate ideas and communicate intended meaning.

Objective: 

  • Students will learn how to draw a face in proportion
  • Students will use tools a materials effectively to communicate ideas
  • Students will create a self-portrait

Agenda:

Monday:  No School – Memorial Day

Tuesday:  Students will work on their self-portrait drawings.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their self-portrait drawings.  Students will begin adding pieces of paper to create a collage on their self-portrait.

Thursday:  Students will continue to work on their self-portraits.

Friday: Students will work on their self-portraits.

6th Grade Digital Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.3 Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

ART.VA.IV.6.2 Develop an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

Objective: Students will learn about Edvard Munch and will create a project based on The Scream.

Agenda:

Monday:  No school- Memorial Day

Tuesday:   Students will watch a powerpoint about MC Escher.  Students will complete Artifacts about him.

Wednesday:   Students will watch a demonstration about how to create their own tessellation.  Students will begin working on their tessellations.

Thursday:  Students will continue working on their tessellations.

Friday:  Students will take a quiz on Escher.  Students will then finish their projects and complete a self-evaluation.

7th Grade Digital Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.4 Initiate new ideas employing inventiveness and innovation at an emerging level with increasing independence.

ART.VA.III.7.2 Interpret artwork searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at an emerging level.

ART.VA.IV.7.1 Recognize, describe and analyze, and evaluate how art contributes to and reflects all societies and cultures at an emerging level.

Objective:  

  • To create a “Multiples of Me” photograph
  • To demonstrate the ability to manipulate photographs to fit the student’s work
  • To interpret the success of their own work

Agenda:

Monday:   No school- Memorial day

TuesdayStudents will be introduced to the Multiples of Me project.  Students will go in pairs to take photos for the project.

Wednesday:    Students will go back out with their partners to take photos for the project.

Thursday:  Students will watch a demonstration on how to put the multiples into one photo.  Students will work on their project.

Friday:  Students will finish working on their Multiples of Me project.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art.I.VA.M.2    Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will create a multi-media drawing.

Agenda:

Monday:  No school – Memorial Day

Tuesday: Students will work on their multi-media drawing project.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their multi-media drawing project.

Thursday:  Students will work on their multi-media drawing project.

Friday:  Students will finish their multi-media drawing project.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

ART.VA.I.8.1 Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.I.8.3 Select and apply visual characteristics and organizational principles to communicate effectively when designing and solving creative problems.

ART.VA.II.8.5 Consistently demonstrate reflective thinking practices when identifying, designing, and solving creative problems.

ART.VA.V.8.2 Effectively recognize and describe the skills used in visual arts careers.

     Objective: 

  • Students will design a Movie Poster
  • Students will understand and use the principles of design
  • Students will learn how to use the basic tools in Adobe Illustrator

     Agenda:

Monday:  No school – Memorial Day

Tuesday: Students will work on their Movie posters.

Wednesday:   Students will work on their Movie Posters.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Thursday:  Students will be introduced to the Food Label re-design project.  Students will watch a powerpoint.  Students will complete a worksheet to gather ideas about their food label they want to re-design.

Friday: Students will work on their label re-designs in Illustrator.
