8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.8.1   Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.I.8.5   Effectively produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique.

ART.VA.II.8.7   Apply preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts in the creative problem solving process.

ART.VA.IV.8.2   Articulate an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

Objective:  Students will learn about Illuminated Lettering and use calligraphy to create an Illuminated quote.

Agenda:

Monday: Project review, work on Illuminated quote

Tuesday: Project review, work on Illuminated quote

Wednesday: (Sub all day) Drawing worksheet

Thursday: Project review, work on Illuminated quote

Friday: Illuminated quote due, self-assessment

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence Art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

ART.VA.I.6.2 Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.4 Develop reflective thinking skills by observing, analyzing, and critically evaluating works of art for the purpose of improving technical quality.

ART.VA.II.6.7 Create preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts at a developing level.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will create a project drawing only the contour lines of an owl, filling in the owl with their own Zentangle designs; creating an interesting texture to their owl. 

Agenda:

Monday:  Continue drawing different Zentangle patterns in each section, begin outlining designs with sharpie marker

Tuesday:  Discussion/demo of watercolor backgrounds for owls, watercolor paint the background paper for the owls

Wednesday:  (Sub all day) Drawing worksheet

Thursday:  Finish watercolor painting, finish zentangle patterns, cut out owls and glue onto backgrounds

Friday:   Finish watercolor painting, finish zentangle patterns, cut out owls and glue onto backgrounds

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question:  How does Art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2   Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will learn to draw by observation through still life drawing. Students will create depth by using shading and value.

Agenda:

Monday:  Review still life drawing, draw with sharpie marker the whole hour, showing value with shading techniques

Tuesday:  Review still life drawing, draw small still life setups at each table

Wednesday: (Sub all day) Small still life drawing at tables

Thursday: Discuss life drawing (gesture & contour), practice gestures and contour drawings

Friday: Review life drawing, practice gestures and contour drawing

7th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.1   Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.

ART.VA.I.7.5   Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1   Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  Students will create a collage and use scale to show depth in artwork.

Agenda:

Monday: Review project, work on What’s in my head collage, self-assessments

Tuesday: Discussion/demo of Who’s in School project, take photos

Wednesday: (Sub all day) Digital photography worksheet

Thursday: Review project, work on Who’s in School project

Friday: Review projects, work time, finish all work and self-assessments
