8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.8.1   Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.I.8.5   Effectively produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique.

ART.VA.II.8.7   Apply preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts in the creative problem solving process.

ART.VA.IV.8.2   Articulate an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

Objective:  Students will create a clay creature using pinch pots.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will watch a powerpoint and have a discussion as a class about clay pinch pots.  Students will go into the computer lab and get an image of the animal they want to create.

Tuesday: Students will watch a demonstration on how to create a creature using pinch pots.  Students will learn about additive and subtractive clay techniques.  Students will begin making their pinch pots.

Wednesday: We will review the project as a class and then students will continue working on their pinch pot creatures.

Thursday: We will review the project as a class and then students will continue working on their pinch pot creatures.

Friday: Half day of school-end of Marking Period 3

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence Art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

ART.VA.I.6.2 Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.4 Develop reflective thinking skills by observing, analyzing, and critically evaluating works of art for the purpose of improving technical quality.

ART.VA.II.6.7 Create preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts at a developing level.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will create a sculpture.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will watch a powerpoint and a demonstration on how to create their sculpture.  Students will start putting their sculptures together.

Tuesday:  We will review the project as a class and students will continue to create their sculptures.

Wednesday:  We will review the project as a class and students will continue to create their sculptures.

Thursday:  We will review the project as a class and students will continue to create their sculptures.

Friday:   Half day of school-end of Marking Period 3

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question:  How does Art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2   Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will create a self-portrait.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will take a photo of themselves on the computers.  Students will follow some steps in Photoshop to create a line drawing of their portrait.  Students will do a blind contour drawing while they are waiting for their photos to be printed.

Tuesday:  Students will grid their portraits.  Students will grid another paper and begin drawing their portrait square by square.

Wednesday:  Students will continue drawing their portrait square by square.  When finished, students will add color to their portraits with oil pastels.

Thursday: Students will finish drawing their portraits if they haven’t already and will continue to color with oil pastels.

Friday: Half day of school-end of Marking Period 3

7th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.1   Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.

ART.VA.I.7.5   Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1   Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  Students will create a photobook with images they have taken.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view a demonstration.  Students will work on their photobook pages.

Tuesday:  Students will continue to work on their photobook pages.

Wednesday: Students will continue to work on their photobook pages.

Thursday: Students will finish their photobooks and complete a self evaluation.

Friday: Half day of school-end of Marking Period 3
