8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.8.1   Apply understanding of the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to the selection of appropriate tools and media to design and solve creative problems and achieve desired artistic effects.

ART.VA.I.8.5   Effectively produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique.

ART.VA.II.8.7   Apply preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts in the creative problem solving process.

ART.VA.IV.8.2   Articulate an understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of artwork with aesthetic sophistication.

Objective:  Students will create a clay creature using pinch pots.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will finish creating the details for their pinch pot creatures.

Tuesday: Students will view a powerpoint about perspective drawing and have a discussion about it.  Students will complete two different perspective worksheets.

Wednesday: Students will follow along with me as I demonstrate how to begin their perspective drawing.  Students will add details to their perspective drawings.

Thursday: Students will continue to add details to their perspective drawings.

Friday: Students will continue to add details to their perspective drawings.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence Art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.5 Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at a developing level.

ART.VA.I.6.2 Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.4 Develop reflective thinking skills by observing, analyzing, and critically evaluating works of art for the purpose of improving technical quality.

ART.VA.II.6.7 Create preliminaries, possibilities, and drafts at a developing level.

ART.VA.III.6.1 Observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will create a self-portrait.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will finish painting their sculptures.

Tuesday:  Students will view a demonstration on how to create a “minecraft” style self-portrait.  Students will begin working on their portraits.

Wednesday:  Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Thursday:  Students will continue working on their self-portraits.

Friday:   Students will finish working on their self-portraits.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question:  How does Art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Art. I.VA.M.1   Select materials, techniques, media technology, and processes to achieve desired effects

Art.I.VA.M.2   Use art materials and tools safely and responsibly to communicate experiences and ideas.

Art.I.VA.M.3     Select and use the visual characteristics and organization principles of art to communicate ideas.

Objective:  Students will create a painting.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their self-portraits.

Tuesday:  Students will finish their self-portraits.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

Wednesday:  Students will view a powerpoint about their color study painting.  Students will decide on a word and a font they want to use for their painting.

Thursday: Students will work on drawing their design for their painting.

Friday: Students will work on putting their drawing and word together for their painting.

7th Grade Digital Art: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.1   Understand the varying qualities of materials, techniques, media technology, and processes at an emerging level.

ART.VA.I.7.5   Produce and exhibit a final product that demonstrates quality craftsmanship and technique at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1   Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  Students will create a mandala.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will finish working on their photobooks.

Tuesday:  Students will finish their photobooks and will complete a self-evaluation.

Wednesday: Students will view a powerpoint about mandalas.  Students will watch a demonstration on how to create a mandala.  Students will begin working on their mandalas.

Thursday: Students will work on their mandalas.

Friday: Students will finish their mandalas and complete a self-evaluation.
