8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about Illuminated Letters and calligraphy and will create their own Illuminated Quote.

Agenda:

Monday:  Powerpoint, students will view student examples.  Students will choose a quote to use in their project and will begin “illuminating” the first letter of their quote.

Tuesday: Review project, students will work on letter illuminations.

Wednesday:  Review project, students will work on letter illuminations.

Thursday:Review project, students will be introduced to calligraphy and will begin practicing writing in calligraphy.

Friday:  Review project, students will continue their calligraphy practice.

7th Grade Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  To learn about metal tooling and to create a design with metal tooling.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will be introduced to metal tooling.  They will look at examples of metal tooling throughout history and student work.  Students will begin setting up their metal tooling work and drawing a sketch of their design.

Tuesday:  Students will begin tooling their design.

Wednesday:  Students will continue tooling their design.

Thursday:  Students will paint their design and rub off excess paint.  Students will glue their designs onto a black paper and will begin extending their designs. 

Friday:  Students will finish extending their designs onto the background and will begin coloring their background designs with colored pencils.

6th Grade Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences impact our Art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective: Students will learn about Zentangles and Watercolor painting techniques and will create a Zentangled Animal with an Abstract watercolor background.

Agenda:

Monday: Review project, students will practice doing zentangles and then begin putting them in their animals.

Tuesday:  Review project, students will work on putting their zentangle patterns in their animals.  Students will outline the zentangles with sharpies when they are finished drawing.

Wednesday:   Review project,students will work on putting their zentangle patterns in their animals.  Students will outline the zentangles with sharpies when they are finished drawing.

Thursday:   Review project,students will work on putting their zentangle patterns in their animals.  Students will outline the zentangles with sharpies when they are finished drawing.

Friday:   Review project, students will finish outlining their zentangles with sharpie and will cut out their animals and glue them onto their watercolor backgrounds.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about still life drawing and will complete a series of still life drawings.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will be introduced to still life drawing.  Students will draw a still life from observation with pencil, as a whole group.

Tuesday:  Review still life drawing, students will draw a still life from observation with pencil as a table group.

Wednesday:  Review still life drawing, students will draw a still life from observation with charcoal, as a whole group.

Thursday:  Review still life drawing, students will draw a still life from observation with sharpie, as a whole group.

Friday:  Students will have a class critique of their still life drawings.  Students will complete a self-reflection about their still life drawings.

8th Grade Digital Imaging: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about Graphic Design and create a personal logo in Illustrator.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will be introduced to Graphic Design.  Students will complete a worksheet about graphic design.

Tuesday:  Students will begin designing their personal logos.

Wednesday: Students will narrow down their ideas to their top 3 favorites and will write some more specifics about their ideas and how they will create them.

Thursday:  Students will choose their favorite design and begin creating it in Illustrator.

Friday:  Students will complete their logo design in Illustrator and will complete a self-evaluation.
