8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about Illuminated Letters and calligraphy and will create their own Illuminated Quote.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue their calligraphy practice.

Tuesday: Students will continue to practice their calligraphy, when ready, they will write their quote on their final product.

Wednesday:Students will finish their Illuminated quotes and will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Thursday: Students will be introduced to the Self-portrait project.  Students will take a pre-test about facial proportions.  Students will learn proper facial proportions.

Friday:  Students will work on their self-portraits.

7th Grade Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  To learn about monochromatic color schemes and will paint a monochromatic painting.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will finish their metal tooling projects.  When finished, students will complete a self-evaluation.

Tuesday:  Students will review the color wheel and will be introduced to monochromatic color schemes for their painting.  Students will choose an image to be the focus of their painting.  Students will begin tracing the image for their painting.

Wednesday:  Students will finish their drawings and will begin mixing colors for their paintings and they will begin painting their images.

Thursday:  Students will work on painting their images.

Friday:  Students will work on painting their images.

6th Grade Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences impact our Art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective: Students will learn about James Rizzi and will create a project in his style.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will learn about artist James Rizzi through a powerpoint.  Students will begin drawing their designs.

Tuesday:  Students will continue drawing their designs and will begin coloring with oil pastels when ready.

Wednesday:  Students will continue to color their designs with oil pastel.

Thursday:   Students will continue to color their designs with oil pastel.

Friday:   Students will finish their James Rizzi designs and will complete a self-evaluation.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Objective:  Students will learn about still life drawing and will complete a series of still life drawings.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will be introduced to gesture life drawing.  Students will draw their peers for the class period.

Tuesday:  Review gesture drawing, students will craw more gesture drawings of the peers.

Wednesday:  Students will be introduced to contour drawing and will do a couple contour drawings in class.

Thursday:  Students will be introduced to the self-portrait project.  Students will begin working on their self-portraits.

Friday:  Students will work on their self-portraits.

8th Grade Digital Imaging: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Objective:  Students will learn about Fine Arts and create a design in the style of Romero Britto.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will be introduced to the Fine Arts career.  Students will complete a worksheet about Fine Arts.

Tuesday:  Students will view a powerpoint about Romero Britto and will begin drawing a sketch of their design.

Wednesday: Students will begin drawing their design in Illustrator.

Thursday:  Students will continue to draw their design in Illustrator.

Friday:  Students will complete their design in Illustrator and will complete a self-evaluation.
