8th Grade Art: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about Pop Art and will create a painting of Superman or Wonder Woman.

Agenda:

Monday:   Students will work on their Pop Art Comics drawings.  Students will start painting when ready.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their Pop Art Comics drawings/paintings.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their Pop Art Comics drawings/paintings.

Thursday:  Students will work on their Pop Art Comics drawings/paintings.

Friday:  Students will work on their Pop Art Comics drawings/paintings.

7th Grade Art: 2nd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  To learn about Chuck Close and create a self-portrait in his style.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their self-portraits.

Tuesday:  Students will finish their self-portraits.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Wednesday:  Students will be introduced to the totem pole project that will be displayed for Literacy Night.  Students will begin creating sections of totem poles with construction paper.

Thursday:  Students will work on their totem pole sections.

Friday:  Students will work on their totem pole sections.

6th Grade Art: 3rd hour

Essential Question: How do life experiences impact our Art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective: Students will draw a cartoon character using a grid and then will improve their painting skills by painting their picture.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their grid drawings.  Students will begin painting their characters.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their paintings.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their paintings.

Thursday:  Students will work on their paintings.

Friday:  Students will finish their paintings.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Objective:  Students will create a multi-media project.

Agenda:

Monday:   Students will choose an image to draw for their multi-media project.  Students will use tape to divide their paper into at least 4 sections.  They will draw their image onto their paper.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their drawings.  When they are finished drawing, students will begin using different media and techniques to “color” their images.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their multi-media drawings.

Thursday:  Students will work on their multi-media drawings.

Friday:  Students will work on their multi-media drawings.

8th Grade Digital Imaging: 6th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

Objective:  Students will learn about the Illustration Career and create a Movie Poster.

Agenda:

Monday:   Students will work on their movie posters in Illustrator.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their movie posters in Illustrator.

Wednesday:  Students will finish their movie posters in Illustrator.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

Thursday:  Students will be introduced to Advertising.  Students will complete a worksheet about the Advertising career.

Friday:  Students will work on re-creating a package design.  When finished sketching out their ideas, students will begin designing their package in Illustrator.
