8th Grade Digital Imaging: 1st hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about the Industrial Design career and create a headboard and footboard for a Stryker bed.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will learn about the Industrial Design career and the Stryker project.  Students will begin to sketch out ideas for their design.

Tuesday:  Students will finish sketching their design ideas for their project.  Students will begin creating their design in Illustrator.

Wednesday:  Students will work on creating their designs in Illustrator.

Thursday:  Students will continue to create their designs in Illustrator.

Friday:  Students will finish creating their designs in Illustrator.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

7th Grade Digital Imaging: 2nd & 3rd hour

Essential Question: How does Art shape our view of the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.7.3      Demonstrate the use of successful visual vocabulary at an emerging level.

ART.VA.II.7.3    Collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas at an emerging level.

ART.VA.III.7.1    Critically observe, describe, and analyze visual characteristics at an emerging level.

Objective:  Students will learn about MC Escher and create a digital Mandala.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view a powerpoint about MC Escher and Mandalas.  Students will create a background for their own mandalas.

Tuesday:  No class, MSTEP testing.

Wednesday:  No class, MSTEP testing

Thursday:  Students will work on their Mandalas

Friday:  Students will finish their Mandalas and will complete a self-evaluation.

Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Objective:  Students will learn about the Day of the Dead and create a “sugar skull” mask.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view a powerpoint about the Day of the Dead and sugar skulls.  Students will view a demonstration of how to make a mask with plaster gauze strips.  Students will begin making their masks.

Tuesday:  Students will work on their masks.

Wednesday:  Students will begin to paint their masks.

Thursday:  Students will work on their masks.

Friday:  Students will work on their masks.

Objective:  Students will create a Pop Art Comic painting of Superman or Wonder Woman.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will be introduced to the Pop Art Comic painting project.  Students will draw their grid on their paper.

Tuesday:  Students will begin to draw their Superman or Wonder Woman in their grid.

Wednesday:  Students will continue to draw their Superman or Wonder Woman in their grid.

Thursday:  Students will work on their Superman or Wonder Woman drawings.

Friday:  Students will work on their Superman or Wonder Woman drawings.
