8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about four different art styles and will draw a pear in each of the four styles and will color them in with different materials.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will finish their paintings and complete a self-evaluation.

Tuesday: Students will learn about four different art styles and will draw a pear in each of those styles.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their pear drawings and use different materials to color them.

Thursday:  Students will work on their pear drawings and will color them.

Friday:  Students will finish their pears and complete a self-evaluation.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will learn about zentangles and will create a zentangled animal.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will view a powerpoint about Zentangles.  Students will practice zentangling and when finished they will choose an animal to draw and begin drawing it.

Tuesday: Students will continue to draw their animals and add in their zentangles.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their zentangled animals.  When finished drawing, they will outline with sharpies.

Thursday:  Students will paint a background for their animals with watercolors.

Friday:  Students will cut out their zentangled animals and glue them on to their watercolor backgrounds.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about drawing from observation and shading with value through an object study.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will learn about value.  Students will complete a value scale as a warm up and then will use that knowledge to begin an object study project.  Students will choose an object to study and draw from observation from 4 different points of view.

Tuesday: Students will work on their object studies.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their object studies.

Thursday:  Students will work on their object studies.

Friday:  Students finish their object studies and will complete a self-assessment.
