Last Week of Marking Period 3! 

8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about street artists and graffiti art.  Students will create their name in graffiti.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will finish their pears and complete a self-evaluation.

Tuesday: Students will learn about street artists and graffiti art.  Students will practice different lettering styles to create their name in graffiti.  Students will begin to draw their name in graffiti.

Wednesday:  Students will work on drawing their names in graffiti.  Students will color their names when they are finished drawing.

Thursday:  Students will finish their graffiti names and will complete a self-evaluation.

Friday:  1/2 day, end of MP3

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will create a sculpture (magazine bowl) out of recycled materials.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will finish zentangle animals and grade sheets.  Students will draw dragon eyes, step by step with the teacher.

Tuesday: Students will view a powerpoint about recycled art.  Students will view a demonstration.  Students will begin creating pieces for their sculptures.

Wednesday:  Students will work on creating pieces for their sculptures.

Thursday:  Students will work on creating pieces for their sculptures.

Friday:  1/2 day-End of MP3

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about drawing from observation and shading with value through a series of still life drawings.

Agenda:

Monday: Students will complete a still life drawing using white drawing materials on black paper.  They will focus on the highlights and shadows.

Tuesday: Students will complete a still life drawing using sharpie markers.  They will focus on pen & ink techniques for shading.

Wednesday:  Students will choose their most successful work and will have a gallery walk.  Students will comment on each other’s work.  Students will write a Type 1 paper about their experience with still life drawing.

Thursday:  Students will learn about gesture drawing and will complete several gesture drawings.

Friday:  1/2 day-End of MP3
