8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about form and function and will create a creature with clay.

Agenda:

Monday:  Sub all day. Students will learn about form and function.  Students will draw out an idea for a clay form.

Tuesday: Students will begin working with clay.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their clay creatures.

Thursday:  Students will work on their clay creatures.

Friday:  Students will work on their clay creatures.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will create a sculpture (magazine bowl) out of recycled materials.

Agenda:

Monday:  Sub all day. Students will learn about recycled art.

Tuesday: Students will view a powerpoint about recycled art.  Students will view a demonstration.  Students will begin creating pieces for their sculptures.

Wednesday:  Students will work on creating pieces for their sculptures.

Thursday:  Students will work on creating pieces for their sculptures.

Friday:  Students will work on creating pieces for their sculptures.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about gesture drawing and will create a self-portrait.

Agenda:

Monday: Sub all day. Students will learn about gesture drawing and self-portraits.

Tuesday: Students will complete a series of gesture drawings ranging from 1 minute-5 minutes.

Wednesday:  Students will take a photo for their self-portrait drawing.  Students will complete a couple more gesture drawings.

Thursday:  Students will begin drawing their self-portrait using their photo as a guide.

Friday:  Students will work on their self-portraits.
