8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about color theory and Pop Art and will create a Pop Art Painting of Superman or Wonder Woman.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will choose an image of Superman or Wonder Woman to draw.  Students will make a grid on their paper and after a demo, will start to enlarge their image onto their grid.

Tuesday: Students will continue drawing their image.

Wednesday:  Students will work on their drawings.

Thursday:  Students will work on their drawings.

Friday:  Students will work on their drawings.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will create a sculpture (magazine bowl or paper mache minion) out of recycled materials.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on creating their sculptures.

Tuesday:  Students will work on creating their sculptures.

Wednesday:  Students will work on creating their sculptures.

Thursday:  Students will work on creating their sculptures.

Friday:  Students will finish their sculptures and will complete self-assessments.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about gesture drawing and will create a self-portrait.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on their self-portraits.

Tuesday:  Students will finish their self-portraits.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Wednesday:  Students will be introduced to watercolor painting.  Students will practice some watercolor techniques and will choose a sea animal to draw.  

Thursday:  Students will begin drawing their sea animal.

Friday:  Students will finish drawing their sea animals outline with sharpie when ready.
