8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about color theory and Pop Art and will create a Pop Art Painting of Superman or Wonder Woman.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will begin working on painting their drawings.

Tuesday: Students will continue painting their drawings.

Wednesday:  Students will work on painting their drawings.

Thursday:  Students will work on painting their drawings.

Friday:  Students will finish their paintings.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will learn how to draw in one point perspective and will create an aquarium in perspective.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work step by step with the teacher to set up their perspective drawings.

Tuesday:  Students will work on finishing their drawings and outlining them with sharpie markers.

Wednesday:  Students will finish outlining and coloring areas in with sharpie marker.

Thursday:  Students will use watercolors to paint in specific areas of their drawings.  Students will begin coloring sea animals with colored pencils when painting is finished.

Friday:  Students will finish coloring their sea animals and will cut them out and glue them onto their drawings.  Students will complete self-assessments when finished.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about watercolor techniques and will create a sea animal that goes beyond the box.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will work on painting their sea animals.

Tuesday:  Students will work on painting their sea animals.

Wednesday:  Students will finish painting their sea animals and will complete a self-evaluation when finished. 

Thursday:  Students will learn about color theory and will begin drawing a design for their color study painting.

Friday:  Students will work on designing their color study painting image.
