8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about color theory and Pop Art and will create a Pop Art Painting of Superman or Wonder Woman.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will begin working on painting their drawings.

Tuesday: Students will continue painting their drawings.

Wednesday:  Students will finish their paintings.  Students will complete a self-evaluation.  Students will be introduced to the “Selfie Self-Portrait” project.  Students will take photos for their projects.

Thursday:  Students will begin tracing their photos for the self-portrait project.  Students will outline their self-portraits when they are drawn.

Friday:  Students will work on coloring their self-portraits once they are outlined.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will learn about foil embossing and will create their own foil embossed design.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will view a demonstration about foil embossing.  Students will draw their designs on their cardboard and will line their design with glue and yarn.

Tuesday:  Students will cover their designs with foil and will begin coloring their designs.

Wednesday:  Students will continue coloring their designs.

Thursday:  Students will continue to color their designs.

Friday:  Students will finish coloring their designs.  Students will complete self-assessments when finished.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about color theory and will create a painting with specific color schemes.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will be introduced to the color study painting.  Students will begin sketching out their ideas for their paintings.

Tuesday:  Students will work on designing their paintings.

Wednesday:  Students will finish designing their paintings and will begin painting their paintings.

Thursday:  Students will continue painting their designs.

Friday:  Students will continue painting their designs.
