8th Grade Art: 1st and 6th hours

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

 Objective:  Students will learn about self-portraits and will create a “selfie” self-portrait.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will begin working on drawing their phones and outlining their self-portraits.

Tuesday: Students will continue drawing their self-portraits.  Students will work on coloring their portraits once they are outlined.

Wednesday:  Students will continue to color their self-portraits.

Thursday:  Students will continue to color their self-portraits.

Friday:  Students will finish coloring their self-portraits.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

6th Grade Art: 2nd and 3rd hours

Essential Question: How do life experiences influence art?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.I.6.2  Develop the concept of proper use of art materials and using tools safely and responsibly.

ART.VA.I.6.3  Develop a successful visual vocabulary.

ART.VA.III.6.2  Develop the skill of interpreting artwork, searching for embedded meaning, function, and personal connections at a developing level.

Objective:  Students will learn about foil embossing and will create their own foil embossed design.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will cover their designs with foil and will begin coloring their designs.

Tuesday:  Students will continue coloring their designs.

Wednesday:  Students will finish coloring their designs.  Students will complete self-assessments when finished.

Thursday:  Students will take photos for their self-portrait project.  Students will draw outlines of phones for their projects.

Friday:  Students will trace their photos onto their drawings of their phones.  Students will outline their drawings with sharpie marker when finished drawing.

8th Grade Basic Design: 5th hour

Essential Question: How does art impact our place in the world?

Content Standards:

ART.VA.II.8.3    Effectively collaborate, communicate, and work with others to create new ideas.

ART.VA.III.8.4    Effectively use critical thinking strategies to observe, compare, and contrast artworks.

ART.VA.III.8.5    Develop and defend informed aesthetic opinions about works of art using effective artistic vocabulary.

Objective:  Students will learn about color theory and will create a painting with specific color schemes.

Agenda:

Monday:  Students will continue painting their designs.

Tuesday:  Students will continue painting their designs.

Wednesday:  Students will finish painting their designs.  Students will complete a self-evaluation when finished.

Thursday:  Students will be introduced to a multi-media project.  Students will begin drawing their designs for their multi-media projects.

Friday:  Students will continue to draw their designs and begin using different media to “color” in their designs.
